Kariotahi Beach Dog Walk
Back to Jimbo's Dog Walks7 ks from Waiuku is one of South Aucklands best outdoor playgrounds. Kariotahi Beach is just 30 minutes from the Drury off ramp and stretches North and South for miles.
I used to walk my dogs there years ago but stopped because it became to busy. When I was out there last week (7pm) I was pleasantly surprised at how unpopulated it was and the upgrade on facilities makes it a much more desireable place to go.
To the South it runs down to the Waikato River mouth about 10 kilometres away and to the North you can walk 3 – 4 ks when the tide is out.
As a dog walking spot you can drive to a spot of your choosing on the beach and get out and walk on the waters edge or in the dunes. Awesome for a summer evenings walk. The beach when the tide is out is compact and relatively safe for driving, mountain biking or running.
There are toilets, a surf life saving club and a restaurant up the Hill.
On you way home, Waiuku offers an ice cream shop, cafes and we normally stop at the Dingle Dell dairy by the town square for an ice cream for people and dogs.
