Tips for Cats

Transitioning your pet to a raw meat diet

If your cat has never had the pleasure of a raw meaty diet he may be addicted to his commercial dry food and take a couple of weeks to get the hang of it.

The first transition is to get him used to eating two or three times a day. Having food continually available is an unnatural way to feed a cat and encourages over eating .

Consider transitioning fully to RAW food at the start even if you intend to feed a mix of raw, cooked and dry eventually as this will give your pets digestive system the optimal environment for generating healthy enzymes and flora.

Start with a teaspoon of meat for cats, drop it into their feed bowl like a stolen precious morsel from your own meat preparation and they will feel extra spoilt. Warming the meat slightly (to body temperature) will greatly increase acceptance.

Slowly build up the amount of RAW food and decrease the dry ration. Build up to replace one full meal a day with RAW food , then fully transition to RAW food.

Cats who are really resistant to RAW food may need to be enticed with canned food and RAW meat during the transition phase. For the long term health of your cat, it is worth persevering. The rewards are noticeable, optimal body weight, a bright shining coat, clean teeth and odourless breath, and most importantly, a very satisfied and happy cat.

Feeding:

For a medium sized cat we recommend feeding 100grams of Jimbos/day so that 5 days feeding from one container makes feeding Jimbos an economical option as well as a healthy nutritious one.

Transitioning a dog is not as difficult

Generally speaking, as with a cat but time should be taken to change over a period of days to allow the dogs system to acclimatize to the new food source. Ensure meat is not served directly from the fridge and always feed bones raw.

If your dog has a tendency to gulp food down rapidly, feed it in large chunks or place a large object (that can’t be swallowed) in the bowl so the dog has to eat around the object thereby taking a little more time over it’s food.
We recommend feeding a range of food types to ensure your dog receives optimum nutrition over a period of time. It is not scientific or quantifiable but it is a sound feeding regime.

Add milk, eggs, cheese, chicken necks, internal organs (kidney, liver, heart) and any other readily available natural food sources to your cat or dog's diet over a week / month much like we feed ourselves to receive a well rounded diet.

Our products are not nutritionally complete so feeding a range of natural products is desireable to achieve a balance over a period of time.

The Jimbos range of Pet food can be found in the chilled pet food section of your local supermarket. It needs to be kept refrigerated and has a shelf life of 12 days from the date of manufacture.

Precautions when feeding RAW food

RAW food is a great source of nutrition for your pet. Safe food handling is required, just as you do when preparing meat products for yourself.

When feeding a RAW diet do not leave the food down available to your pet for an unlimited period of time. Fresh is best. Remember to properly wash all utensils, bowls, holding containers and all the surfaces the food has contacted with hot soapy water. If left unwashed they become potential sources of contamination.

Why Feed Jimbo's to your Pet

Your animal is biologically prepared to eat fresh meat, plain and simple but please read on.

What you feed your pet is the most important component of your pet’s health care. Our animal companions are natural hunters and carnivores, despite thousands of years of domestication they have very short intestinal tracts geared to the consumption and digestion of RAW foods.

A RAW food diet, properly prepared and minimally processed provides your pet with natural enzymes, probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals in their natural state making them more digestible and more easily assimilated. The fresher the better, and variety is optimal.
Many pet owners, breeders and enlightened veterinarians are rediscovering the health benefits of a raw food diet.

At Jimbos we continue to do what we have always done, we supply real fresh meat for real animals in an easy to use recyclable package.
While other products may be described as “with Beef”, Jimbos products are true to label, if it says Pure Beef, it is Pure Beef

When we say real animals we mean real animals, all the way up to the big cats at the zoos that we supply meat too.

How often do you see the cats at the zoos on T V shows eating canned or dry food?

The meat in Jimbos is high in protein (21% by typical analysis) which cats require for energy and growth and to maintain their muscles. Compare that level of protein to that of jelly meat type products and you will see why fresh meat is of importance to cats.

Concentrated protein in a digestible format as nature intended.

Being raw, the meat in Jimbos has natural moisture content rather than added moisture, the effect of this is that the product satisfies the cat for longer.

No more cat smooching around your feet looking for a feed while your cooking.

The Jimbos fresh meat products are intended to supplement a RAW food diet. We have available a range of products to ensure that your cat receives optimum nutrition over a period of time as nature intended.
